Poland submits claim against Russia’s food ban to WTO
WARSAW, Aug 19 (PRIME) -- Poland’s Economy Ministry has asked the European Commission to submit a claim to the World Trade Organization against Russia’s ban of E.U. food imports, the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.
Poland’s fruit and vegetable imports to Russia amounted to one billion euros per year before Russia’s retaliation to the E.U. and U.S. sanctions.
Russian president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Russia will submit a counter-claim against the sanctions imposed on it by Brussels and Washington to the WTO. Russia will contest the claim against food imports ban, he said.
On Tuesday, Polish Agriculture Minister Marek Savitsky will meet European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht to discuss the E.U. retaliation and protection against the Russia’s food imports ban.
